1. Purpose
DilDil CIC is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and respectful environment for everyone who engages with our work. This includes young people, staff, volunteers, partners and members of the wider community. We believe diversity is a strength and we promote equality, inclusion and mutual respect in all our activities.
We aim to ensure that no one is treated unfairly because of their:
• age
• disability
• gender or gender identity
• race, nationality or ethnic background
• religion or belief
• sexual orientation
• pregnancy or maternity
• marital or civil partnership status
2. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to Directors, staff, volunteers, sessional workers, facilitators, young people taking part in activities, partner organisations and visitors. Everyone involved in DilDil’s work is expected to follow this policy.
3. Our commitment
• Treat everyone with dignity and respect
• Provide inclusive and culturally sensitive activities
• Create safe spaces where young people feel they belong
• Challenge discrimination, harassment or exclusion
• Promote understanding between different communities
• Make reasonable adjustments where possible to support people with disabilities or additional needs
Our programmes are designed to support young refugees and promote wellbeing, confidence and integration into community life.
4. What discrimination means
Discrimination can include treating someone unfairly because of who they are, excluding them from opportunities, bullying, harassment or creating an environment where someone feels unsafe or unwelcome. DilDil CIC does not tolerate discrimination in any form.
5. How to raise a concern or report discrimination
If you experience or witness discrimination, harassment or unfair treatment connected to DilDil’s activities, you can report this in the following ways:
• Speak directly to a DilDil staff member or session lead
• Contact a Director
• Email info@dildil.org
• Speak to a trusted support worker who can raise the concern on your behalf
We understand some young people may feel nervous about reporting issues. Where needed, we will provide language support or a safe private space to talk.
All concerns will be taken seriously, handled sensitively and reviewed as soon as possible. Where appropriate, concerns may be addressed through informal discussion, safeguarding procedures or the formal Complaints Policy. No one will be treated unfairly for raising a genuine concern.
6. Recruitment and opportunities
When recruiting staff or volunteers, DilDil CIC aims to use fair and transparent processes, focus on skills and values, and encourage applications from people with lived experience and diverse backgrounds. We aim to provide equal access to training and development opportunities where possible.
7. Monitoring and learning
DilDil CIC may review its activities and engagement to understand whether some groups face barriers to participation. We use feedback and consultation with young people to improve inclusion and strengthen our services.
8. Responsibility
The Directors have overall responsibility for ensuring this policy is followed. All staff and volunteers share responsibility for creating an inclusive environment and modelling respectful behaviour.
9. Review
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it reflects DilDil’s values, legal duties and the needs of the community we serve.
